VC splits two matches in final day of DAC Classic

IRVING - The Victoria College Pirates lost in five sets to North Lake College on Saturday at the DAC Volleyball Classic.

The Pirates won the first two sets 26-24, 25-20 before North Lake College rallied to win the next three 25-21, 25-16, 15-13.

Ryndee Weishuhn (Columbus) had a career-high 19 kills for VC. Itzy Zapata (Los Fresnos) and Pilar Garcia (Pasadena Memorial) each had 11 kills. Valerie De La Fuente (Mission Veterans Memorial) tallied a career-high 29 assists and Natalie Leal (Los Fresnos) added 19.

The Pirates (5-4) defeated Southwest Community College 25-4, 25-9, 25-12 earlier in the day. Garcia had a team-high nine kills. Nicole Ressman (Ganado) topped the Pirates in assists with 12.

VC will return to action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. with a road match at Laredo College.
