Pirates open season against Blinn College

The Victoria College Pirates are anxious to play for real.

After the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) delayed the start of the men's basketball season, and all other fall sports, to January due to COVID-19 precautions, the Pirates, with new head coach David Graves and nine new faces on the roster, were limited to five months of practices and a few controlled scrimmages.

The Pirates return six players from last season's team that went 0-24 in VC's inaugural NJCAA season. Among the top returnees are 6-foot-2 sophomore guard/forward Kenyatis Turner Corpus Christi King), who averaged 14.4 points and 5.9 rebounds in 22 games, and 6-foot sophomore guard Brycen Thomas (Humble), who scored 16.1 points per game in seven contests.

Among the newcomers are four transfers – 5-10 sophomore point guard Tariq Aman (Coppell/Temple College), 6-4 sophomore guard Ethan Austin (Eustace/Blinn College), 6-6 sophomore forward Miles Macadory (Sachse/Paris JC), and 6-8 sophomore guard Jordan Wallace (Fort Bend Ridge Point/Collin College).
