The Victoria College Pirates went cold in the second half in falling 81-62 to the Tyler Junior College Apaches in a Region XIV men's basketball game Wednesday at VC's Sports Center.
VC, which fell to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in Region XIV play, led 35-31 at halftime. The Pirates clung to a 52-50 edge with 13:35 remaining, but Tyler JC utilized its full-court press to reel off 10 unanswered points in the next three minutes and was never threatened the rest of the game.
Freshman Ezra McKee (Wooster, Ohio) led VC with 15 points and freshman Kaelon Harkema (Louisville, Ky.) added 14.
The Pirates will return to Region XIV action Saturday when they travel to play the second-ranked Kilgore College Rangers at 4 p.m.
